Media Influence on Kids' Imaginations

Join the Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center at Yavapai College for a FREE parenting workshop entitled “The Influence of Media on Children’s Imagination” on Sat., July 18, 2009 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. The Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center is located on the Prescott Campus of Yavapai College.
Presented by Lenka Studnicka, a teacher at the Family Enrichment Center, this workshop will focus on positive ways to stimulate your child’s imagination. Explore the potential impact and effects television has on children. The presenter will also discuss the importance of limiting your child’s exposure to television and other screen media as well as the benefits and importance of play. This workshop is an open discussion and questions are encouraged.
According to Kate Moody, author of Growing Up on Television, “As children watch television, they internalize what they see. A child becomes willing to let the television image answer the question 'Who am I?'”
Advance registration for the workshop is required. Free child care will be provided at The Family Enrichment Center for children 3 months through 6 years during the workshop, however both child care and workshop space are limited. Call 928.776.2111 to make reservations.
The Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center at Yavapai College is a child development center that offers a safe and nurturing child-centered program that is focused on promoting children’s learning. The FEC enrolls children between the ages of three months through five years of age. The FEC is a laboratory school, which means that students pursuing a teaching career with young children have an opportunity to work under the guidance of master teachers at the facility.
