The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Verde Valley and Sedona is a self-directed membership organization within Yavapai College. It has been created to meet the needs and interests of retirement-age people. The Institute recognizes the unique experiences and capabilities of its members by emphasizing and encouraging peer learning, member participation, collaborative leadership and social interaction. Lively discussion, plus experiential opportunities in personal growth, cultural and environmental explorations provide members a rich, continuing educational experience.

Come kick off our Fall Quarter!  There are over 100 class offerings crafted by enthusiastic and dedicated facilitators who believe strongly in lifelong learning.  Come meet other members and partake in lunch and refreshments.  And best of all you can explore all that the Fall OLLI program offers, meet the facilitators and sample classes!!!. The theme is 1968 in the nation and the Verde Valley.

Here in Sedona, where we have UFO sightseeing tours, the topic of extraterrestrials is perhaps not as strange is it might be elsewhere.  We are also blessed with vortexes and a variety of spiritually based experiences to offer.  But, what is the connection, if any, between the two?  And are UFO’s just a figment of the tour operators’ imaginations?.

Narratives of Women Breaking Ground in Alaska’s Oil and Gas Industry

Thurs Sept. 27th 12:30 to 1:30pm Clarkdale - Learn about women working in the Alaska oilfields in the 1970s, 80s and beyond and their struggle to gain footholds in a predominantly male workforce. We will discuss why the women left their families and comforts and went north to work in unforgiving environments. Why were they there? What was it like? How did they survive?

Sustainable Southwest Landscaping

Sept. 25, 2 Hrs, 9:00-11:00, Offsite AZ Botanic Gardens - This presentation will focus on methods applicable to designing and maintaining southwestern landscaping with minimal impact on the natural environment.  Water conservation in this region of the U.S. has become of critical concern and the use of xeriscape and permaculture techniques must be adopted in order for any true progress to occur in our proposed water use strategies.
