New Permanent Course Process

1. Use This Process To:

  • Convert an experimental course to permanent status
  • Convert a special topics course to permanent status
  • Create a new course that is a required course in a YC certificate or degree program
  • Create a new course that is an approved option on the General Education list of approved courses

2. What’s the Difference Between the Quick-Start New Course and the Permanent New Course?

The Quick-Start New Course process is a shortcut review process for pilot implementation. The Permanent New Course process requires a complete curriculum review, including approval by the District Curriculum Committee.

New courses are generally introduced as experimental or special topics courses through the Quick-Start New Course process. The quick-start, pilot period is an opportunity to assess enrollment interest and evaluate whether the course content and learning outcomes achieve the expected results. If the pilot period proves successful, the course is then proposed as a New Permanent Course.

If a course has not been introduced as an experimental or special topics course, it may be proposed for permanent status only if it meets the following criteria:

  • Required in a Yavapai College certificate or degree program.
  • Designated as an option on the General Education list of approved courses.

3. How Do I Prepare My Proposal?

  1. Download and save the New Permanent Course Proposal Form
  2. Complete all fields in the proposal
  3. E-mail a copy of your proposal to your Division Curriculum Representative and to the Curriculum Coordinator, Patti Schlosberg
