Quick-Start Proposal Process Description

1. Use This Process To:

  • Pilot a new course
  • Introduce a special topics course

2. What is a Quick-Start Course?

A Quick-Start course goes through an abbreviated curriculum review process. An approved course may be offered for 3 consecutive semesters to pilot an experimental course or to offer a limited special topics course.

While the curriculum review process is a short cut to pilot implementation, the course outline development and supporting justification must adhere to the same standards of quality as a permanent course.

3. What Happens At The End of the Quick-Start Pilot Period?

After the 3-semester test period, a course may be proposed for permanent course status if:

  • The learning outcomes and course content achieve the intended results
  • There is a demonstrated enrollment potential to sustain continued offerings

If the course hasn’t met the intended need or achieved the intended results, it is removed from the active course bank at the end of the trial period. Under special circumstances, an extension to the 3-semester test period may be granted.

4. How Do I Prepare My Proposal Form?

  1. Download and save the Quick Start Proposal Form
  2. Complete all fields in the proposal form
  3. E-mail a copy of your proposal to your Division Curriculum Representative and to the Curriculum Coordinator, Patti Schlosberg
