Mission:
Provides knowledge about emergency medical procedures and techniques.
Emergency Medical Services Outcomes
Upon successful completion of Emergency Medical Services certificates the learner will be able to:
- Appraise the medical emergency.
- Determine priorities of care.
- Stabilize patients with airway obstructions, respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest and the use of CPR and Oxygen use.
- Stabilize patients with bleeding, shock, soft tissue injuries, fractures, nervous system injuries, spinal injuries, burns, environmental emergencies and psychological aspects of emergency care.
- Stabilize patients with medical emergencies and emergency childbirth.
- Prepare patient for transportation to medical care center with a minimum of aggravation to the patient's illness or injury.
- Assess the human body for trauma, illness and injury and apply appropriate medical treatment in the field.
- Use cardiac drugs to stabilize a patient.
- Communicate cardiac related problems through EMS system and treat patient accordingly.
- Fulfill the medical, legal and ethical responsibilities of the Emergency Cardiac and Advanced Life Support provider.
- Describe the emergency indications and contraindications of each drug carried.
- Manage cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, neurological, musculoskeletal, pediatric and obstetric emergencies in a manner that is beneficial to the patient.
- Communicate pertinent and concise patient information to the Emergency Room staff using telemetry equipment and written forms.
- Employ techniques for managing trauma and medicine.
