Yavapai College & Guidance Helicopters Join Forces

The Yavapai College District Governing Board granted approval for the college to offer a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Professional Helicopter Pilot on Fri. Dec. 11, 2009. The college has selected Guidance Helicopters Academy of Prescott, Ariz. to provide flight training. The program is designed to provide the training and education needed for students to become commercial helicopter pilots and flight instructors.
Pending approval from Veterans Affairs and the State of Arizona, eligible veterans may have tuition, flight fees, books, and cost of living expenses covered by their veterans benefits under the new Post 9-11 GI Bill. Traditional college students are eligible to apply for federal financial aid to cover the entire degree program and flight fee costs.
This new degree program incorporates the best traditional flight training techniques and the latest educational strategies. The program uses instructional videos, in-class simulators for each student, and one-on-one flight instruction in the world’s most popular and effective helicopters. This method of instruction reduces time and cost for the student while improving the learning of aircraft systems, aerodynamics, and aeronautical decision making.
Guidance Helicopters, Inc., the nation’s first high-altitude flight training academy, has been educating professional helicopter pilots from around the world since 1998. Yavapai College, established in 1968, provides quality, convenient, and cost effective learning opportunities for the diverse population of Yavapai County.
