PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Steve Bracety, chairperson of the Yavapai College District Governing Board, announced today that Yavapai College President Dr. Lisa Rhine will be taking an extended leave of absence. The board has appointed Dr. Doug Berry, who currently services as Provost and Vice President of Student Affairs as the acting administrator on duty of the College for the duration of Rhine’s absence. Bracety also announced that District 4 Governing Board Member Patrick Kuykendall has resigned from his position effective June 30 due to a new role he is accepting with Yavapai County.

"Yavapai College remains one of the premier community colleges in the state, backed by a strong executive leadership team and a highly qualified faculty and staff," Bracety said. "I am confident that the college will continue to innovate and serve our students and community at the highest level during Dr. Rhine’s extended leave. The board will continue to work closely with college leadership to ensure a seamless continuation of excellent education for our students."

Bracety said that Kuykendall made the decision to resign from the Governing Board to accept a position with the Yavapai County Workforce Development Board. Because Yavapai College is a subcontractor of the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, Kuykendall stepped down to proactively avoid any potential conflicts of interest.

"Mr. Kuykendall has been a highly effective and dedicated member of the District Governing Board, and his commitment to the continued success of the college will be missed," Bracety said. "I commend him for making the difficult but honorable decision to resign to ensure absolute institutional integrity."

In his resignation letter, Kuykendall stated: “It has been a pleasure to work with the District Governing Board, President Rhine, the executive leadership team, Yavapai College staff, and the legal counsel who support our board. I wish everyone continued success, health, and effective decision-making as you move forward supporting Yavapai College. It has truly been an honor.”

Yavapai College operates seven campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County. It offers over 100 degrees and certificates, four baccalaureate degrees, student and community services, and robust cultural events and activities. To learn more about YC, visit www.yc.edu.
