Residents are invited to enjoy this review of Sedona’s movie-making heyday through photos and behind the scenes stories, presented by Janeen Trevillyan, historian for the Sedona Historical Society and the Sedona Heritage Museum, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 12:30 – 1:30 at Yavapai College Verde Valley Campus, 601 Black Hills Drive, Clarkdale, in Room M-137.  This presentation is free to the public. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Yavapai College is pleased to host this event.

The first movie made in Oak Creek Canyon was Zane Grey’s “Call Of The Canyon” in 1923.  The Golden Age of the Sedona movie industry was in the 1940s and 1950s when almost every major studio and famous movie star traveled to Oak Creek for filming.  At its’ peak, Sedona hosted almost 20 major movie productions in the 5 years after WWII.  The 1960s, however, saw the end of the Western film era.

After a career in Facilities Management in corporate America, Janeen Trevillyan moved to Sedona in 1999.  With a long-time interest in historic preservation, Janeen served 3 terms on the City of Sedona’s Historic Preservation Commission and has volunteered with the Society and Museum for over 24 years.  She is the co-author of the book, “Images of Sedona,” a historic photo book about local history.
