Frequently Asked Questions

Library Card

What is the Yavapai Library Network?

The Yavapai Library Network includes more than 45 Yavapai County libraries. Shared technology provides access to materials from all the cooperating libraries - over 1,054,000 items! The online catalog allows you to locate and request materials that may not be at your local library. Couriers deliver library materials between the network libraries, so you don't need to travel to another library. Your library card allows you access to all of the YLN libraries.

Library Holds

What does it mean to place a hold on an item?

When you place a hold, the library that owns the item will send it to the library you specify. You will then be notified that your hold is ready to be picked up.

How do I place a hold?

You may place a hold on an item through the online Library Catalog.

You can also place a hold by calling the Prescott Reference desk at 928-776-2261 or the Verde Circulation desk at 928-717-6541.

How long does it take for my hold to arrive?

The Library Catalog will give you an estimated wait time. Most items that are on the shelf will be delivered in 3-7 business days. However, it can take 7-10 days for some holds to be filled.

How do I know when my hold is ready to be picked up?

You will be notified by e-mail if you have an e-mail address in your record. If there is no e-mail address, a notice will be sent to you by postal mail.

How long will you keep my item on hold?

Items that have not been picked up after 10 business days are returned to their respective library.

Can I have the item sent to another library and pick it up there?

Yes.

When placing a hold, you have the option of choosing which library you want to pick up the item at.

Why can't I place a hold on a specific item?

Some items have restrictions that prevent them having a hold placed on them. For example, Reference books and "Faculty use only" items are not allowed to leave their respective libraries.

Owing fines to the library will also prevent you from placing a hold on items through the online Library Catalog.
