Prescott, Arizona — Today Yavapai College announces the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected its Unmanned Aerial Systems program for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems-Collegiate Training Initiative program or the UAS-CTI.

“Yavapai College is dedicated to providing high-quality academic paths and associated resources to ensure that our students can secure rewarding, high-paying jobs,” said Acting Yavapai College President Dr. Doug Berry. “Our commitment to strengthening the local, regional and national workforce by providing highly skilled workers to excel in multiple industries means we're helping to fortify the economic future for years to come.”

The FAA’s UAS-CTI program recognizes institutions that prepare students for careers in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly referred to as drones. In order to qualify for the initiative, schools must offer a bachelor’s or associates degree in UAS or a degree with a minor, concentration, or certificate in UAS. Schools must provide curriculum covering various aspects of UAS training, including hands-on flight practice, maintenance, uses, applications, privacy concerns, safety, and federal policies concerning UAS.

“Yavapai College’s acceptance into the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Collegiate Training Initiative is an important milestone for our college, our UAS program, and the greater Prescott community,” Yavapai College Dean Jason Ebersole said. “This recognition reflects the dedication, expertise, and innovation of our UAS faculty and staff, as well as the commitment of our students who are preparing to enter one of aviation’s most rapidly evolving fields.”

“Our collaboration with the FAA strengthens our ability to provide relevant, industry-aligned education that prepares students to safely and effectively contribute to the future of the National Airspace System. We are proud of what our UAS team has built and excited about the opportunities this partnership will create for our students, our regional workforce, and the growing unmanned aviation industry in Arizona and beyond.”
