Yavapai College Performing Arts brings one of the most beloved musicals of all time to the stage in a bold, breathtaking new production. The Sound of Music runs April 17–26, 2026, with eight performances over two weekends at the Jim and Linda Lee Performing Arts Center. Tickets are on sale now at www.ycpac.com.

In his much-anticipated Main Stage directorial debut at Yavapai College, Benjamin Naasz reimagines this iconic story with a vibrant, technically ambitious vision. The nostalgic set transforms seamlessly from Abbey to grand mansion featuring 20-foot-high walls... and a stage-within-a-stage that becomes the enchanting gazebo. Production specialist Gulliver Parascandolo layers immersive front and rear projections that envelop audiences in stunning visual storytelling.

At the heart of Naasz's concept is a powerful artistic metaphor music as light. Like a breath, the music weaves itself through the story, bringing increasingly vibrant colors and contrasts to the set, costumes, and projections. As Maria and the Von Trapp’s move from desolation to happiness, the stage itself transforms growing warmer, richer, and more luminous with every song. This is a production you don't just see and hear. You also feel it.

Longtime Yavapai College favorite Dr. Craig Ralston returns as Music Director, lending his seasoned expertise to guide a talented ensemble of next-generation performers in delivering unforgettable renditions of cherished classics like “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and the memorable “The Lonely Goatherd.” Timeless in its themes of love, family, and defiance in the face of tyranny, The Sound of Music resonates as powerfully today as ever a reminder that music can unite us even against the darkest of forces.
