Prescott, Arizona — Yavapai College Women’s Volleyball hosted the Yavapai College Volleyball Invitational on Fri. Sep. 4 and Sat. Sep. 5.  

 

The Roughriders faced Justice College on Saturday, winning 3-1. Set scores were Yavapai College 25-13, Justice College 25-18, and Yavapai College 25-14 and 25-15. Yavapai College’s Hannah Gamez had 13 kills, with an additional nine from Mackenzie Strader.

 

Roughrider Yuliana Apodaca had 19 digs, with four total blocks from Jada Adams and two solo blocks by Strader.

 

Later that day, Yavapai College won 3-2 in a hard-fought battle against Gillette College, with set scores of Gillette College 25-18, Yavapai College 25-14 and 25-20, Gillette College 25-19 and Yavapai College 15-11.

 

Yavapai College’s Valerie Sabalza had 12 kills, with 11 more from both Jada Adams and Hannah Gamez. Caitlin Celestino had three service aces and Yuliana had 17 digs, with 41 assists from McKenzie Wright and five total blocks from Timari Filisi.

 

On Sunday, the Roughriders faced Phoenix College, taking a 3-2 victory with Hannah Gamez getting 14 kills and Mackenzie Strader with another 11. McKenzie Wright had 39 assists with four services aces and Jada Adams had five total blocks and Keyara Haywood had three solo blocks.

 

Yavapai College Women’s Volleyball went 3-0 during the Invitational, and are 6-2 on the season, their best start in more than five years. The Roughriders next host Central Arizona College on Wed. Sep. 9.
