YC Promise Mentors are individuals who donate their time and services to the promise program to help guide new students on the education journey.

  • Be 21 years or older
  • Be subject to a background check
  • Have the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Have strong communication skills, including the ability to meet in-person and communicate via email, phone, and text messaging
  • Be a positive representative of Yavapai College

  • Complete this form to become a mentor
  • You will receive follow-up communication from our YC staff on additional documentation
  • Attend a mandatory high school team meeting in March or April
  • Attend a YC Promise meeting at the College in the fall

  • Help students explore career paths and set goals
  • Make an initial contact with students before the high school team meeting
  • Contact students a couple of times per month
  • Remind students of meetings and deadlines
  • Encourage students to reach their potential
  • Refer students to YC resources
  • Develop mutual trust and respect
  • Be comfortable and establish appropriate boundaries with the student and his or her family
  • Maintain confidentiality
