Plan Your Academic Path

Connect your educational goals with the right degree, major, and semester-by-semester course plan.

Step 1

Understand Your Credential Options

Yavapai College degrees can prepare students to transfer to a university or enter a specific occupational field. Certificates provide focused training for employment or advancement in an existing career.

Step 2

Choose a Major with Purpose

Choosing a major is easier when you consider your interests, strengths, priorities, educational goals, and preferred type of work.

  • Examine your interests and abilities. Consider the subjects you enjoy, the skills you already have, and the areas in which you would like to improve.
  • Clarify your career and life goals. Think about what you value in a career, including stability, variety, independence, teamwork, income, and opportunities for advancement.
  • Compare educational pathways. Review program requirements, transfer options, costs, locations, schedules, and the amount of time required to complete each option.
  • Explore careers through experience. Career fairs, internships, volunteering, student organizations, and part-time employment can help you test an area of interest.
  • Research early and ask questions. Review college and university websites, academic catalogs, and career-planning resources before making a final decision.
Step 3

Build Your Plan in DegreeWorks

DegreeWorks helps current degree-seeking students review completed requirements, identify remaining courses, and map coursework across future semesters.

  1. Sign in to the MyYC Experience student portal.
  2. Open the main navigation menu and select Academics/Students.
  3. Select DegreeWorks to review your degree audit and begin planning future coursework.
  4. Review the plan with an academic advisor before registering.
