Prescott, Arizona — Yavapai College has promoted Megyn Felton to lieutenant with the Yavapai College Police Department, recognizing her extensive experience, leadership and commitment to the safety of the college community. Felton’s career with Yavapai College began as a student in the Administration of Justice program. She went on to build her career with the Yavapai College Police Department, serving as an Administration of Justice Services intern, part-time safety officer, full-time safety officer and lead safety officer before becoming an Arizona full-authority peace officer.

Since becoming a sworn officer, Felton has served the department as a police detective, patrol corporal, patrol sergeant and detective sergeant. Her promotion to lieutenant represents the latest step in a career she began as a Yavapai College student.

“Megyn’s promotion is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of her dedication to Yavapai College,” said Yavapai College Acting President Dr. Doug Berry. “Our police department plays a critical role in creating a safe environment where our students, faculty and staff can learn and work. Megyn brings experience, leadership and a deep understanding of our college community to this important role, and I congratulate her on this well-deserved promotion.”

Felton graduated from the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy, Class 49, and has continued to advance her education and leadership skills throughout her career. She holds an associate degree in Administration of Justice and an Associate of Arts degree from Yavapai College. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, with an emphasis in Justice Studies and Criminal Justice Administration, and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.

I’m committed to leading with integrity and doing everything I can to keep our students, faculty and staff safe.”

Felton’s career progression reflects Yavapai College’s commitment to developing its employees and providing opportunities for professional growth. Her experience as both a YC student and police officer provides her with a unique perspective on the college community she now serves in a senior leadership role.

As lieutenant, Felton will continue working with Chief Payne and the Yavapai College Police Department to support a safe, welcoming and secure environment across the college’s campuses and facilities.
