Guys and dolls

Prescott, Arizona — The bets are on, the lights are up, and one of Broadway’s most beloved musical comedies is coming to Prescott. The Yavapai College Performing Arts Department presents Guys and Dolls for six performances, Nov. 6-15, at the Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center.

Set amid the colorful streets and lively underworld of 1950s New York, Guys and Dolls brings together gamblers, showgirls, missionaries and hopeless romantics in a story filled with comedy, romance, memorable characters and high-energy musical numbers.

At the center of the action is Nathan Detroit, who is scrambling to find a home for his infamous floating crap game while his fiancée of 14 years, Miss Adelaide, wonders if he will ever make it to the altar. Meanwhile, high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson takes on an unexpected bet involving mission worker Sarah Brown - and soon discovers that matters of the heart are a gamble all their own.

Featuring music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, the celebrated score includes Broadway classics such as “Luck Be a Lady,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” and “If I Were a Bell.”

“As a former New Yorker and a resident of Las Vegas for 15 years, it is a delicious treat to bring these beloved gamblers, showgirls and missionaries to life here in Prescott on the Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center stage,” said Director Heather “Scottie” Scott. “It is a pure delight to work with our current Performing Arts students and our guest community members.”

The full-scale production showcases the talent and artistry of Yavapai College students alongside guest community performers, bringing the classic Broadway musical to life with colorful characters, comedy, romance, music and dance.

The cast includes Dowe Kreibick and Ellie Schaible as Nathan Detroit; Eavan Skelton and Quincy Anntinette Garcia as Miss Adelaide; JC Lawler and Isaac Jackson as Sky Masterson; Ruby Tomasovitch and Josie Savoini as Sarah Brown; Frank Virginia and Holger Durre as Arvide Abernathy; and Isaiah Taylor and Wyatt Shields as Nicely-Nicely.

The production is directed by Heather “Scottie” Scott, with musical direction by Dr. Chris Tenney, set design by Ben Naasz, choreography by Sasha Naasz and assistant direction by Logan Wolf.

With larger-than-life characters, an unforgettable score and plenty of romance and comedy, Guys and Dolls is one gamble audiences won’t want to miss.
