This certificate provides a foundational study of human behavior and prepares students to assist with care for individuals and families experiencing mental illness, co-occurring medical conditions, substance use or addiction, and trauma-related challenges. Many courses use Open Educational Resources, which means no textbook fees.

The program prepares students for employment in primary care and specialty physicians’ offices, ambulatory care, and urgent care facilities. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certified Medical Assistant exam through NCCT.

The program combines nursing theory with clinical experiences in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare agencies. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN to pursue licensure as a practical nurse. Licensing requirements are determined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Pre-entry requirements
Applicants must hold active Arizona certification or licensure as a CNA or LNA, or qualify as military medical personnel, with one year of full-time or two years of part-time recent work experience. Applicants also need a high school diploma or GED and a successful ATI TEAS score.

Training includes ventilation with barrier and bag-valve-mask devices, oxygen, and use of an automated external defibrillator. The course meets American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR and AED requirements and uses satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading.

Prepare to work as a nursing assistant and take the state competency examinations leading to certification or licensure. Prescott Valley offers a three-week option each fall, spring, and summer, plus a 16-week option each fall and spring.
Requirements
MAT 082 or a satisfactory Mathematics Skills Assessment score, plus reading proficiency or proof of 12 successfully completed college credits. Pre-entry requirements include a program application, criminal background, health and drug screenings, and a minimum age of 16.

This eight-week transition course is for Nursing students who wish to take the NCLEX-PN and begin a career as a practical nurse. Requirements include admission to the Nursing program and completion of NSG 151, NSG 152, NSG 153, NSG 154, NSG 155, and BIO 205.
