May 20 Update

While most of us are primarily telecommuting through July,

  • Some departments remain on campus (eg. Police, Facilities, Food Service, Residence Life, etc.)
  • Some employees occasionally come to campus with their supervisor’s and VP’s approval to conduct work on specialized equipment (eg. Payroll), to pick up mail, or perform other work cannot otherwise be performed at home

Beginning Monday May 25th and EFFECTIVE THROUGH THE SUMMER TERM:

  • While we know some employees are ready to return to their office at YC, the ELT has determined that the vast majority of employees will continue to telecommute at this time
  • Employees, students, and visitors will continue to be required maintain good social distancing (stay 6 feet apart), and to stay home if ill or if awaiting COVID19 test results
  • Employees, students, and visitors who have been approved to be on campus will be required to wear a mask when in a YC Building.  This is in alignment with guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, and is intended to limit the spread of COVID19
    • People are not required to wear a mask when outside while on YC premises; however, they must always maintain good social distancing.
    • Employees are not required to wear a mask if working alone in their private office, but must wear a mask in any shared or common space.

We are in a unique situation:

The current best available information indicates that I cannot effectively protect myself from COVID19 by wearing a mask, but I can protect others if I wear a mask.  A model out of Berkeley indicates we will reduce the possibility of transmission by 90% if we all wear a mask, so that is what we plan to do this Summer.

Thank you in advance for working with your employees and students to garner their buy-in and ensure their compliance with these Summer work rules.

Decisions for Fall semester regarding telecommuting, PPE or Social Distancing have not been determined at this time, but will be revisited in July.
