Properly Paying Your People—
It Sounds Easy, But It's Not!

The most violated laws by employers are the wage payment and worker classification laws, which have steep penalties. This course will discuss the often-misunderstood issues of exempt/nonexempt, independent contractors, overtime calculations for multiple pay rates or piece rates, comp time, travel time, payment at termination, and more. Business owners, bookkeepers, and others involved in paying employees are encouraged to attend.

Laura Hamblin is a Prescott employment attorney and human resources consultant who primarily works with small employers throughout north central Arizona to help them comply with the sea of employment laws. She prepares workplace policies and employee handbooks; conducts management and employee training; provides guidance on difficult employee issues; as well as other employment-related services. Her goal is to establish proactive measures for her clients to prevent litigation.

Introduction to QuickBooks Seminar

This seminar is for individuals who are considering purchasing QuickBooks. The seminar will provide you with an overview of QuickBooks, so you have a basic understanding of how it works.

The seminar will review:

  • Many aspects of QuickBooks, including setting up customers, invoicing, paying bills, reconciling accounts, producing financial reports, paying sales tax, and many other facets of this software program
  • QuickBooks will be projected on a screen, so that you can see what it looks like and how it works
  • The differences between QuickBooks Pro, Premier, Mac, the Online versions of QuickBooks, and Quicken
  • Ben will answer your QuickBooks questions during and after the presentation

This seminar is for individuals who are about to begin using QuickBooks Pro or Premier, or have begun using one of these programs, but are not sure they set it up correctly. The seminar will take you step by step through the process of setting up QuickBooks Pro and Premier.

The seminar will review:

  • The initial set-up
  • Customizing the layout
  • Setting preferences
  • Modifying the Chart of Accounts
  • Downloading bank and credit card transactions into QuickBooks
  • Adding customers, vendors, and items
