CourseForge and Syllabus with Updated Policy Block

The CourseForge is a Canvas template course for faculty

The current version is CourseForge 4.0, designed to meet the YC Essential Design Standards.

Features include:

To use the CourseForge, follow the directions below. 


Import the CourseForge into your course:

  1. Create a new course shell by selecting "Start a new course" from your Canvas Dashboard, Choose “!Manually Created Courses” from the first drop-down menu, and then give your course a unique name (ex: yourname sandbox 1).
  2. Select on the Commons button on the left side of your dashboard (C->).
  3. Search the Canvas Commons for "CourseForge" and select it.
  4. Select "Download" from the right side of the page.
  5. Select the name of the unique blank course that you just made.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the button "Import into Course"
  7. Select the Dashboard button and locate the course that you made. 
  8. If the content hasn't populated, wait a minute or so and refresh the page.

Use the Syllabus with Updated Policy Block

After importing the CourseForge into a sandbox course:

  1. In the course you want to copy content into, Go to the course settings, and select “Import course content”.
  2. Then, select "copy a canvas course" from the content type dropdown.
  3. The “Search for a course” field should have a dropdown list of your courses – select the one you want to get content from.
  4. Select  “specific content”, then "Import"
  5. Select the “select content” button next to the import button after clicking “Import”. 
  6. Select the content (Syllabus body) you want to copy, then click select content at the bottom of the box.
